A European pioneer in mosquito science, scaled for the American market

Biogents has been pioneering biological mosquito control since 2002. When they brought their proven European business to the U.S. market, they needed a technical partner who could move at the pace of their growth. We've been that partner ever since.

How it started

Biogents is one of the most respected names in biological mosquito control. The company was founded in 2002 in Germany by a team of scientists, and their research-grade trapping technology has been deployed in public health programs, scientific studies, and homes across Europe for over two decades.

When Biogents decided to build out their American operation, they faced a different kind of challenge than most ecommerce brands. The product authority was already established. The science was settled. What they needed was a technical partner who could help them translate that pedigree into the e-commerce experience that the U.S. market expects, and who could move at the pace of a fast-growing market entry.

We started working together in the early stages of their U.S. ecommerce growth, and the partnership has only deepened from there.

What we set out to do

Biogents didn't need a one-time rebuild. They needed an ongoing technical partner who could:

  1. Navigate platform decisions as the business scaled - from theme architecture to checkout customization to subscriptions to B2B.
  2. Ship enhancements quickly so the storefront could keep pace with competitive pressure in a market they were entering against established players.
  3. Identify opportunities the internal team didn't have time to surface - speed work, conversion improvements, customer-experience refinements.
  4. Stay genuinely close to the business, the way a good internal hire would, rather than treating it as a series of disconnected tickets.

This is the kind of relationship that doesn't fit cleanly into a single project plan. It's a long-running collaboration with a body of work that compounds.

What we've built together

Across the partnership, we've shipped a wide range of work on the storefront. A few of the meaningful pieces:

A subscription program built on Recurpay, so customers who use Biogents traps as part of an ongoing mosquito management routine can subscribe to consumables (lures, replacements) at the cadence they actually need. Subscription is meaningful for this category - mosquito control is seasonal, ongoing, and rhythmic. The infrastructure now matches that pattern.

Checkout customization to streamline the path to purchase for the U.S. audience and reduce the friction that small structural details add up to over thousands of orders.

A B2B program on Shopify B2B, supporting the pest-control professionals, public health programs, and scientific institutions that buy at volume. Biogents' products serve customers from individual homeowners to government agencies, and the storefront now serves all of them appropriately.

Bubblehouse rewards to build the loyalty program that turns repeat customers into advocates, which is especially relevant for a brand whose customers genuinely become evangelists once they see the products work.

Klaviyo email lifecycle tuned to the seasonality of mosquito control. Welcome series, onboarding, seasonal triggers, replenishment reminders, post-purchase guidance.

Microsoft Clarity for behavioral analytics - the kind of data that lets us make real CRO decisions instead of guessing.

Zendesk integration so customer support is woven into the storefront rather than living in a separate world.

Plus the steady drumbeat of platform work - feature additions, performance refinements, bug fixes, template iterations, the things that keep a fast-growing e-commerce business healthy.

The technical decisions worth talking about

Shopify Plus as the foundation. Biogents' growth profile, multi-segment customer base (retail + B2B), checkout customization needs, and subscription complexity all pointed at Plus from early on. The platform paid for itself fast.

Recurpay over alternative subscription tools because it integrates cleanly with Shopify Plus, handles the kind of consumable-replenishment patterns Biogents needs, and doesn't add unnecessary checkout complexity.

Shopify B2B (native) rather than a third-party wholesale app, for the same reason we use it across most of our Plus builds: native is faster, more reliable, and doesn't fight the platform.

Restraint on apps generally. Every app added to a storefront is a vote against speed, stability, and future flexibility. We've added what genuinely earns its place and resisted the temptation to bolt on every shiny tool the market produces.

What changed

The numbers across the partnership tell a clear growth story:

  • Sales up 96%
  • Orders up 92%
  • Sessions up 80%
  • Conversion rate up 18%

These are the kinds of numbers that come from sustained, compounding work - not a single launch moment, but the result of many small good decisions made over a long stretch of time.

Where we are now

Biogents continues to grow in the U.S. market, and we continue to be their technical partner. The work spans product enhancement, performance optimization, platform decisions, and the steady stream of small improvements that keep a storefront ahead of the competition.

What makes this partnership work is what Biogents said themselves: it's the responsiveness, the reliability, and the genuine investment in their success. A storefront is a living asset, and a brand of this caliber deserves a partner who treats it that way.

We've been working with Code2Commerce since the early stages of our ecommerce growth in the US, and he has been a reliable partner throughout our journey. As our business expanded, having someone who understands our platform, responds quickly, and genuinely cares about our success has made a significant difference. Beyond development work, Max consistently provides valuable technical recommendations, identifies opportunities for improvement, and helps us implement solutions efficiently. Their proactive approach, reliability, and commitment to quality have made them a trusted extension of our team. We highly recommend Code2Commerce to any business looking for a dependable ecommerce and development partner.
